Please allow me to introduce myself...

Right, where to start? For those who don´t know me(!), I am that confused-looking, red-haired English guy who has been walking around school for the past two-and-a-half months. My name's Tim, and I am the new English Auxiliar here this year. This blog post is my first chance to introduce myself to everybody here on-line.

So... hi!

¿Cuál es tu nombre completo? My full name is Timothy Michael John Woolley. Amusingly, lots of the children here call me Chimochy, or Tiiiiiiiiiiiiim :P

¿De dónde eres? I'm from a small town near Birmingham, England, called Walsall. It is slightly smaller than Coruña, and has a similar population. Birmingham is much bigger, and is England's second city.

¿Cuántos años tienes? I'm 21 years old (as of last week!).

¿Por qué estas aquí? I am a student, and I study Philosophy and Spanish at the University of Exeter in Devon, England. As part of my degree, I have to spend two years in Exeter, one year in Spain/Latin America, and then one final year in Exeter. I had the choice between a work placement in a Spanish company, studying in a Spanish university, or teaching in a Spanish school. Clearly, I chose the latter!

¿Te gusta A Coruña? Yes! This is a fantastic place to live, especially for a young foreigner such as myself. There is always a lot to do, and everywhere is so busy and full of life. Yes, the weather isn't perfect, but, remember: I'm British - I'm used to rain and cold!

¿Qué diferencias hay entre Walsall y A Coruña? There are lots of differences. Coruña is a very dense city, with lots of people living very close together. At home we don't have many apartment blocks, and almost everyone in Walsall, and the UK in general, lives in a house. Coruña is very loud, and very busy. In the UK, most shops close at 5 'clock (17:00) or half-past five (17:30), whereas shops here close for (around) two hours for lunch. Shops here stop open much later than at home, but, on the other hand, in the UK lots of supermarkets are open 24 hours a day. Walsall and Coruña also have similarities: the weather is very similar, but the coastline (the beaches, cliffs etc) are more similar to Cornwall (in the South West of England) than Walsall.

¿Te gusta el cole? Of course! The school is so big, which means that there are always so many children here. It's very noisy, though! The teachers and the staff are very nice and have warmly welcomed me to Tarrío and to Spain!

I hope this post has answered some questions you may have about who I am and where I'm from. I will be here all year, until June, so get used to seeing me singing and high-fiveing in the corridor!

Tim out!

WE ALL LOVE TONGUE-TWISTERS

Hello my dear students! How's everybody? Today I have a hilarious proposal for you. I'm sure everybody knows tongue-twisters, these complicated, short sentences that make your tongue go wrong because of the similar sounds they have. Have a look at this video and see how complicated and FUN they are. Now, I dare you to do the same with some more simple ones:   - Red lorry, yellow lorry.   - I scream, you scream, we all scream for ice-cream.  Dont't worry if you are not able to do it, it takes lot of practice!!  Finally, I give you the solutions to the animal word search I posted yesterday.

Valentine's Day and more Arts & Crafts

This past month, students in Tarrío celebrated Valentine's Day by learning about customs in the U.S. and doing crafts! Activities were split by age group. While the 5th and 6th graders watched a presentation on how Valentine's Day is traditionally celebrated in America, the younger students worked on decorating cards for their friends and family.   In Arts & Crafts class, students have been working on a variety of cool projects. The 3rd and 4th graders have been finishing up their Luis Seoane paintings, while the 5th and 6th graders were hard at work using a shading technique to color circles they had drawn.         Each class has also been recreating paintings from a famous Galician painter. Pictured here is 6th C working on a Xurxo Alonso painting, but other painters include Urbano Lugrís and Luis Seoane.

Welcome!
